MP3 player
I think I finally found a worthy replacement for WinAmp. I’ve been using WinAmp for ages since I ditched iTunes because it was so annoying, but lately WinAmp just became buggy, and was hogging waaaay too much of my resources.
There are a gazillion other mp3 players out there, so I tried a few and the one that finally came out on top, it seemed, was Foobar. Still, it didn’t quite cut it. I found the userinterface too simple, and I missed several of the options that I loved WinAmp for (easily creating playlists, letting the program itself choose songs dependent on mood etc). Maybe Foobar has these things, but I for one couldn’t find them.
This morning I ran into MediaMonkey.
I love it. Nice userinterface, it seems to be running smoothly, there are a gazillion plugins if you want to, and one of them is absolutely brilliant - the Scrobbler DJ. It’s a plugin I downloaded: when the final track in “now playing” is reached this script queries Last.fm for a list of similar artists, then chooses a track from your library from one of those artists. Brilliant!
